OUR STORY
Where NEX Came From
NEX began during the pandemic, when hospitals urgently needed faster ways to understand infection risk, patient movement, and possible transmission across complex clinical environments.
That work revealed something important: infections do not spread at random. They move through relationships, between patients, wards, contacts, organisms, staff workflows, antimicrobial exposure, and time. That idea shaped both our technology and our name.
NEX is a contraction of nexus (Latin, n.), meaning a connection or series of connections linking two or more things.
We chose the name because infection prevention is fundamentally about understanding connections. Our platform is built to map how infection risk emerges, moves, and changes across the hospital.
Since then, NEX has grown from research into a clinical-grade platform for infection prevention supporting surveillance, risk prioritisation, outbreak investigation, and more targeted action.
Today, we are working with hospitals in the UK and internationally to build the intelligence layer for infection prevention.
