NEX Closes €1M To Bring Infection Intelligence In To Hospitals

The funding will support the next stage of NEX’s growth as we expand into more hospitals and help Infection Prevention and Control teams act earlier.

NEX's €1M pre-seed

NEX Health Intelligence has raised €1 million to bring advanced Infection Intelligence to more hospitals.

The pre-seed round was led by Brighteye Ventures, with participation from Adeline Arts & Science, AFI Ventures, Ventech’s impact fund, Momentous Ventures, the ConceptionX Angel Syndicate and a group of industry angels.

The investment marks an important step in taking NEX from research and early clinical validation towards wider hospital deployment.

Hospitals Need Better Intelligence to Act Earlier

Healthcare-associated infections remain a major source of avoidable harm, longer hospital stays and operational pressure. The challenge is becoming increasingly urgent as antimicrobial resistance makes more infections difficult to treat.

Yet hospital teams are often expected to prevent what happens next using surveillance systems designed to show what has already happened.

NEX brings together infection data from across the hospital to help teams identify possible cases and clusters earlier, understand how patients, wards and exposures may be connected, and predict where infection risk could emerge next.

This gives Infection Prevention and Control teams the intelligence to focus their attention where it matters most—saving time during investigations, supporting earlier action, minimising exposure and helping prevent secondary cases.

Built from Research, Shaped in Hospitals

NEX was founded by Dr Ashleigh Myall following his PhD in Mathematics at Imperial College London and his work supporting the NHS response to COVID-19. Read the Founding Story ->

Ash later joined forces with physician-scientist Dr Chang Ho Yoon, bringing together expertise across mathematical modelling, artificial intelligence, clinical medicine and biomedical informatics.

Early work was supported through the Medical Research Foundation’s National PhD Training Programme in Antimicrobial Resistance Research. The research underpinning NEX was subsequently peer reviewed and published in The Lancet Digital Health.

By the time of the round, NEX was already working with NHS organisations and hospitals internationally to bring Infection Intelligence into real clinical workflows.

Bringing Infection Intelligence to More Hospitals

The investment will allow NEX to:

Expand deployments across UK and international hospitals.
Complete critical UK regulatory and clinical safety work.
Generate real-world clinical and economic evidence from live hospital sites.
Continue developing the platform alongside Infection Prevention and Control teams.
